Ipswitch Network Management Division Strengthens Leadership and Portfolio

Network Management division adds Kevin Gillis as Vice President of Product Management and purchases HourGlass Technologies

Lexington, MA – June 11, 2009 – Ipswitch, Inc.’s Network Management division, the developer of WhatsUp Gold, today announced that it has appointed Kevin Gillis as Vice President of Product Management, and that it has completed the acquisition of HourGlass Technologies, based in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Subsequently, Brian Kap, a Layer 2 and networking specialist, and Dr Ken Rodham, a networking practitioner and academic, will join Ipswitch’s continually expanding Network Management division.

Kevin Gillis will be responsible for overseeing Product Management and driving strategic growth through new product introductions. Gillis joined Ipswitch in 2003 and brings over 18 years of product management experience in software technology companies. Having substantially increased Ipswitch File Transfer division’s growth, Gillis has been hired by the Network Management division to focus on delivering exceptional user experiences, developing product innovation and introducing award winning products to the market through Ipswitch's global network of distributors and resellers.

“I believe a product management centric organizational model, staffed with high competence and experience, offers the best opportunity for sustainable success,” said Ennio Carboni, President of the Network Management division at Ipswitch. “I am pleased to welcome Kevin to the Network Management division to lead our product strategy. Kevin has produced exceptional results over the years by identifying new opportunities and delivering innovative products. We are looking forward to him driving our strategic growth and expanding our product portfolio and technology.”

HourGlass develops Layer 2 technologies and is the architect behind WhatsConnected, an innovative plug-in for the WhatsUp Gold product family. Layer 2 technology allows network administrators to understand the connectivity and interdependencies between devices.

“We are continually looking to identify excellence in development, and, having incorporated WhatsConnected into WhatsUp Gold, we were fully aware of HourGlass’ ability and its potential to produce quality products,” explained Kevin Gillis. “As part of the acquisition, we have also benefited from gaining two great specialists and technical resources in Brian Kap and Ken Rodham. They have lots of experience in enterprise companies as well as solid experience in smaller start-ups, so I am confident they will be a great asset to Ipswitch and will continue to develop innovative and profitable products.”

WhatsConnected’s unique in-depth technology for Layer 2/Layer 3 discovery, mapping and visualization, goes far beyond typical IP discovery and network mapping solutions by providing visibility into both physical and IP connectivity, including VLAN-specific information. WhatsConnected assembles information from every device in the network to discover and display detailed physical connectivity, device type, asset/inventory and configuration information in an easy to understand network map.

“Our goal at HourGlass has always been to deliver leading edge technology to network administrators, regardless of the size of their network,” states Brian Kap of HourGlass. “The WhatsUp Gold product family is a solid foundation to build upon, and we are excited about the products that the combined teams will be able to deliver to the network management market.”
